FOOTBALL: Bolton Under-14s have been given a home tie against Salford in the quarter-final of the Greater Manchester Schools' Talbot Cup.

The town team have found the going tough this season winning just two of their seven games.

They started well, holding Salford to a 1-1 draw in the Greater Manchester League and then beating Oldham 3-1 in another league match before beating Macclesfield 6-2 in a challenge match.

But they have since lost a hat-trick of league games against Trafford, Manchester and Tameside before going down 2-0 to Blackpool in the preliminary round of the North West Woodward Trophy.

That means that Bolton's only chance of honours will now come in the Talbot Cup, but they must first beat Warrington in a first round match before even thinking about the quarter-final tie against Salford.

Bury Under-14s have fared slighly better losing just twice from six games played so far.

They have won two, drawn one and lost two in the Greater Manchester League and they made progress in the North West Woodward Trophy beating Wigan 3-1 in their preliminary round tie.

That win has now given them a home first round tie against Bradford in the next round.

The full quarter-final Talbot Cup draw is: Tameside v Trafford, Bolton or Warrington v Salford, Oldham v Wigan, Bury v Rochdale or Macclesfield.
