IF the future of Bolton’s thriving theatre scenes lies with today’s youngsters then it is in safe hands with BCMCS Youth Theatre.

The cast put in an enjoyable, polished and funny performance of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat at the Parish Hall Theatre, Christ Church, Egerton.

Directed by Liz Hulme-Dawson, they were enthusiastic and engaging throughout the popular musical which features a host of much-loved songs including Any Dream Will Do, Close Every Door and Joseph’s Coat.

Based on the coat of many colors story from the Bible's Book of Genesis, it tells the tale of Joseph, Jacob’s favourite son, who is bestowed with a fantastic coat, much to his brothers’ rage.

It was nice to have three narrators in the show – Molly Albin, Lucy Beveridge and Charlotte Powell – each with lovely voices and sounding sweet when they sang together.

Todd Grime put in a very good performance as Joseph and displayed fantastic potential for a successful career on the stage.

His 11 jealous brothers put in solid supporting performances, particularly Sean Ainscow who gave a great rendition of Benjamin Calypso.

Elliot Longworth brought the house down with his hilarious turn as Pharaoh, with his  Elvis-style rendition of Song of the King (Seven Fat Cows) - a true star with fabulous stage presence.

Kathryn Wilkinson has done a superb job with the costumes with everyone looking the part and there was some lovely choreography from Melinda Saunders.

The young chorus members were in fine voice, particularly during Any Dream Will Do, and the show was brought to a toe-tapping finale, thanks to musical director Nicola Worrall, as a disco ball glistened overhead.

Congratulations to all involved in BCMCS Youth Theatre for producing a delightful show, which runs until Saturday.
