CLASSIC cars from around the North West will be on the starting grid at Victoria Square for the Mayor’s Charity Classic Car run this Sunday.

Fifty-six classic cars, including a 1914 Ford Model T, will line up in front of Bolton Town Hall from 9.30am, before they set off on a 48-mile “mystery” tour of Lancashire’s countryside.

The drivers will only know their route on the day of the event which will start at 10.30am. They are expected back at the square from around lunchtime.

The event, sponsored by Hillendale Jaguar of Farnworth, has been organised by Mr Trevor Jackson who was responsible for many classic rallies in Bolton and he has been brought out of “retirement” for this one.

Other cars taking part include some from the 1920s/30s, to post war vehicles, right up to the early 1990s.

Famous names such as Jaguar, Land Rover, Bentley, Rolls Royce, Riley, Mercedes, Austin/ Austin Healey, Triumph, MG, Morgan and TVR are all represented.

Fred Dibnah’s old Land Rover will also be taking part.

Spectators are welcome either at the start or when the cars return.

A commemorative programme will be on sale, with proceeds going to the Mayor’s, Cllr Colin Shaw, charities, Bolton Hospice, Bolton Lads And Girls Club, Fortalice and The Sensory Centre for the Blind.
