BOLTON Metro swimmers won an amazing 108 medals (40 gold, 31 silver and 37 bronze) at their Easter Spring meet which attracted competitors from 31 clubs in the North West.
This was the eighth gala since 2008 that Metro have hosted and it has now become a regular fixture in their annual swim season being the second this year.
With over 50 BMSS swimmers competing they were well represented in the male and top female categories.
Mia Greenough won the overall top junior girl while in the individual age groups the male medal winners were Teddy Pender (second 15 and over), Oscar Oldbury Swift and James Mooney (second and third in 14-year-old age-group), Stephen Hancock and Jack Reynolds (first and third in 13-year-old), Jack Morris (third in 12-year-old).
Among the female successes included: Anna Doughty (first in 15 and over), Anna Nikolakis and Mollie Mcart (second and third in 14-year-old), Jessie Harper (second in 13-year-old), Charlotte Dunn (third in 12-year-old), Mia Greenough and Tahria Collins (first and third in 10-year-old) and Piper Stevens (second in nine-year-olds) BMSS were able to put their recent troubles behind them, in respect to the provision of training facilities, by delivering a highly-successful event with several outstanding performances by their swimmers.
The event showcased the wonderful hard work put in by all their volunteers and in Bolton’s premier swimming venue.
Coach Tom McManus said: “The meet has been a huge success, from the parents serving refreshments, the volunteers managing the teams and, of course, the swimmers achieving in the water.
“I’m delighted, and very proud of every one of them. We simply couldn’t do it without their time and support. Winning so many medals and improving on their personal bests really sets us up well, as we work towards the North West Regional Championships.”
BMSS chair Elliot Bostock said: “It was a privilege to have so many guest clubs from around the North West join us to share in the competition and fun on the day. All the swimmers competing were a credit to their clubs, they are all winners.
"So many families have become a part of BMSS with many dedicating huge amounts of their time to support the squad and help us achieve our goals.
“BMSS has swimmers at development level all the way to international athletes.
“The Easter Spring meet is great for the squad, swimming in the Bolton community and most importantly for these dedicated and aspiring young swimming athletes to show us all their talent.
“I would like to take this opportunity to thank the many volunteers, coaches and officials who supporting our Easter Spring Meet and also the management and staff of Bolton One.
“The event would not have been possible without a great many people and we appreciate all their efforts and contributions.”
Bolton Metro Swim Squad is a non-profit making, self funded high performance swimming squad for Bolton and the surrounding community, its swimmers being selected through partnerships with swimming clubs and organisations within Bolton and those which serve these areas.
BMSS is proud of its achievements and in its development of young athletes who have successfully represented themselves and Bolton at county, district and national levels.
BMSS has developed swimmers who have represented Great Britain and England at Commonwealth, Paralympics and Olympic games.”
