A 20-YEAR-OLD dad has been told to stay off cannabis for the sake of his sick father and young son.
Jake Ramsden was found to have six snap bags of cannabis when police raided his home in St Clare Terrace, Lostock, on March 21 last year.
Craig MacGregor, prosecuting at Bolton Crown Court, said police followed a vehicle which came to a halt outside the defendant’s address.
Ramsden saw the police through the window and ran into another room. The court heard he had paid £30 for the drugs.
David Toal, defending, said that Ramsden’s partner gave birth to a baby boy on Sunday and he is the full-time carer for his father who has a serious brain injury after a fall.
Ramsden admitted possessing cannabis and was cleared of possessing a handgun after the prosecution offered no evidence.
Judge Peter Davies, sentencing him, said: “I don’t like cannabis. When in possession of cannabis that means you encourage people to sell it. People who sell it go to prison in my court.
“It is in my view a dangerous drug because it doesn’t help your mental health. You better carry on not using it. It will be better for your father and your young son.
“The curfew will probably be good because you will need to be with your little baby.”
Ramsden was sentenced to a three-month community order where he must comply with a curfew to live at his home address between 8pm and 6am.
