BOLTON'S secondary schools were dealt a body blow today as new league tables show GCSE results are among the worst in the UK.
Only 41 per cent of pupils are achieving the expected grade in English and maths.
And 62 per cent of Bolton's 16-year-olds are leaving school with fewer than five passes, including maths and English, at GCSE level.
The figures leave the borough languishing in the bottom third of all Local Education Authorities in the UK, placed 111th out of 150.
