FIREFIGHTERS were called out after a chip pan caught fire in Leigh.
Crews were called to a house in Hope Street at about 10pm after a pan had been left on while the residents of the property were bathing a baby.
A male resident was able to put the fire out by using a damp towel but inhaled smoke during the incident.
Firefighters provided him with oxygen and he declined any further medical treatment.
Atherton station watch manager, Ian Gardner, said: “The resident became aware of the fire because of a smoke alarm going off which just goes to show the importance of having a working smoke alarm.
“If anyone would like a free home safety check then they should contact their local station.”
