WIVES and girlfriends of Wanderers stars will be putting their best foot forward for charity - but they will be leaving their stilettos behind.

The glamorous WAGs will be pulling on their hiking boots for an eight-mile night-time walk through the town in aid of Bolton Hospice.

While their other halves were training for Saturday's Premiership clash against Manchester City, the ladies were at the hospice yesterday to launch the Midnight Memories walk, which will take place on Saturday, June 16.

And Val Diouf, wife of striker El Hadji Diouf, Dady Faye, wife of defender Abdoulaye Faye, and Louise Reid, girlfriend of defender Nicky Hunt, all vowed to take part in the women-only walk.

The hospice is hoping to get 1,000 women and girls to join the fully marshalled stroll which will set off from Bolton's Victoria Square at midnight.

Wearing pink T-shirts and carrying glowsticks, they will travel along Chorley New Road and back to Victoria Square. The aim is to bring women together, across the generations, to walk in memory of loved ones who have died.

Miss Reid, aged 23 - who is the daughter of former footballer and Premiership manager Peter Reid - will walk in memory of her grandfather, Peter, who died last February after suffering two strokes.

She said: "It's nice to support a local cause and do something for families who are going through a difficult time. I hope we can encourage other women to join us. Some of the other players' wives and girlfriends have already shown interest."

Mrs Diouf, aged 29, will also walk in memory of her grandfather, who died following an illness when she was 14-years-old.

She said: "It is important to give to the local community and I am pleased to be supporting this campaign."

Mrs Faye, aged 23, will walk in memory of a school friend who died, aged 16.

The hospice is hoping to raise £100,000 from the event, which is the first of its kind in Bolton and is being sponsored by Warburtons Bakery, Bolton Council and Greater Manchester Police, who will patrol the walk.

Each walker will pay £10 to take part and will be given a bib on which to attach a photo or the name of a loved one.

Debra Graham, director of fundraising for the hospice, said: "This is a unique event which we want to appeal to people of all ages. We're thrilled that the ladies are helping to promote our work, especially to younger people. We're hoping it will become a real community success."

Call the hospice on 01204 663055. for a registration form.

Children aged under 16 must be accompanied by an adult. Husbands and partners are also being sought to help marshal the event.
