A VICAR is to count the Queen as a member of his congregation after being appointed her chaplain.
The Rev Hugh Bearn, vicar of St Anne's Church, in Tottington, says he has no idea who put his name forward to join the exclusive College of Chaplains.
Only 36 people hold the office, which is the personal appointment of the Queen. It will see the Rev Bearn swapping his usual black cassock for a red one, which marks the office.
Now, as well as tending to his parishioners, the 44-year-old vicar will travel to London several times a year to preach at services attended by the Queen at the Chapel Royal and St James' Palace.
"It is an ancient office, which goes back as long as we have had monarchy.
"It is a wonderful honour and privilege to be so personally associated with the Queen."
