SAM Allardyce has confirmed he is in talks with Bimingham midfielder David Dunn and could finalise a deal in the next 24 hours.

Dunne, who has been hampered by back and hamstring injuiries since he mioved to St Andrew's from Blackburn in a £5.5m transfer in July 2003, is undergoing medical tests at the Reebok with a view to joining Wanderers in a deal worth around £1m.

"We are talking to his representatives at the moment," Allardyce said of his interest in signing the 27-year-old once-capped England international. "That's the furthest we've got. We'll see how it goes today.

"The medical is the key thing to the signing, more than the terms and conditions. Obviously with David's unfortunate previous injury problems, we would have to have a good look at the medical and hope it is as clear as we think.

"David's had a bad time in the last two or three years, but he has no problem from the physical point of view at the moment."

Birmingham manager, Steve Bruce, said: "David Dunn is fit and it might be in the best interests of both parties if something happens.

"It's a shame Dunny has had so many injury problems here because he is a special player, someone who is part of a dying breed.

"The club has spent millions on Dunny, buying him, trying to get him right, trying to get him on the pitch. He is also a decent wage earner. A change of scenery might do him good.""
