A VICTORIAN pub looks set to close for good after commercial estate agents agreed its sale.

Arkwrights Ale House — owned by Chorley-based Trust Inns — is now under offer according to agent Chesterton Humberts.

The large pub in Valletts Lane, off Chorley Old Road, dates back to 1895 and was on the market for £175,000.

Land adjoining the pub was also for sale for a further £150,000.

A spokesman for Chesterton Humberts confirmed the pub was under offer, but declined to say who the prospective buyer was.

But according to temporary landlady Jessie Jones it is not believed to be by anyone who wants to run the building as a pub.

“The locals are very unhappy they could be losing their pub,” she said.
