BOLTON at Home’s urban care and neighbourhood (UCAN) centres have reached the finals of a national award after being judged to be one of the North West’s best community projects.
The six centres were named the winners of the ‘investing in people’ category of the National Housing Federation’s Community Impact Awards.
The UCAN centres in Breightmet, Deane, Johnson Fold, New Bury, Oldhams and Tonge Moor help more than 600 people every week, offeringfree services including employment support, opportunities to train and gain qualifications, money and debt advice, and computer facilities.
The national finals are in London on June 12.
Mark Turnbull, Bolton at Home assistant director of neighbourhoods, said: “Our UCAN centres play an increasingly important role in how we deliver services to best support those who live in our neighbourhoods.”
The awards celebrate the difference that England’s housing associations make through creating opportunities and bringing communities together.
