Band name: Enigma Falls

Members: Rachel Tebay, aged 23, from Bolton, Tom Murphy, aged 23, from Oldham and Ryan Lavin, aged 23, from Mossley.

When and where did you form?
We formed in 2011 when Rachel was looking for a band to perform her EP with. Tom and Ryan are school friends and have played together in bands for years, while Rachel had been writing and recording as a solo artist. We started rehearsing in Blueprint Studios in Manchester and we all gelled really quickly. Since then we have all written together and we are a tight knit band.

What is your sound and who are your influences?
Harmonies are a big part of our sound, along with intricate, rhythmical guitar riffs. When we were recording our album, we kept the effects to a minimum, letting the instruments and vocals stay raw and natural. It’s the same with our live shows; we get a big sound without having to distort everything. We all have different influences which come together in our music. Rachel is a singer/songwriter and loves old rock and folk music, Ryan likes progressive rock and Tom is a jazz and blues player. In our original music we take influence from lots of bands, like Fleetwood Mac, Rush and Fleet Foxes.

What is the biggest gig you have played to date?
We have played a couple of headline shows at Matt and Phred’s Jazz club in Manchester. It’s our favourite venue to play at because they have such a great atmosphere! We also rocked a tiny pub last year for Salford Music Festival and got all the locals dancing on the tables.

If you are not already, is it your ambition to become professional?
We all have the desire to play our music all over the world and to carry on being creative. It would be amazing to earn enough from music that we didn’t have to split our time between the band and full time jobs.

Where do you see yourself in 10 years?
We want to play world famous venues and keep producing music that is important to people. We want to be part of the soundtrack for our generation.

Is there anything unusual or interesting about the band?
For our album cover, local artist Sally Hayes lent us her 1950s stereogram and we took it up onto Winter Hill to take photos. We thought it worked well with the title of our album The Universe Will Sing To Us.

Upcoming gigs?
We’ll be headlining Matt and Phred’s on July 9, 2014.
