TWO gang members have been jailed for their roles in an attempted theft of a cash machine.
Wayne Singleton, aged 25, and Stefan Moores, aged 24, were caught in a police crackdown on cigarette thefts across Greater Manchester.
As police investigated the men, they discovered Singleton and Moores were involved in a Tameside gang that travelled as far as Derbyshire and Leicestershire using stolen cars and vehicles bought using false details.
A Mazda MX6 MPS, which had been stolen from Globe Car Sales in Manchester Road, Burnden, in the early hours of October 10 last year, was used the next day by the gang in Leicestershire.
Three masked criminals attempted to force their way into a stand-alone cash machine at Waitrose on October 11.
They failed to break into it and later abandoned the car in Ashton-under-Lyne.
At Manchester Minshull Street Court, Singleton, of no fixed address, admitted conspiracy to steal, two offences of burglary and handling stolen goods.
He was jailed for five years.
Moores, of Garth Road, Wythenshawe, pleaded guilty to attempted theft, handling stolen goods, production of cannabis, two offences of assault against police officers, one offence of damaging property and one offence of destroying property. He was jailed for two years.
