A BROTHER grabbed his sister by the throat and punched her in the face after returning from a drinking session, a court heard.

Imran Mustafa, aged 34, of Manchester Road, Bolton, had asked his sister to make him some food at the family home in Nelson and she agreed.

He then followed her into the kitchen, grabbed her by the throat with both hands and punched her, Burnley Magistrates’ Court heard.

While Mustafa had hold of his sister, their father had walked in and saw his daughter bleeding from a cut to her lower lip.

Mustafa, said by the bench to have a long criminal record, admitted assault by beating on May 23.

He was fined £110 and ordered to pay £100 compensation, £30 costs and a £20 victim surcharge.

Chairman Stephen Riley told him: “You were in drink and this was a domestic setting. You have shown remorse.”

Parveen Akhtar, prosecuting, said there had previously been a row between Mustafa and his sister. After the assault, he let go of her and left.

Their father told police he had been in the living room, watching TV, when he heard a commotion.

The court was told the sister suffered swelling and a sore neck, as well as the gashed lip.

John Rusius, defending, said Mustafa and his sister accepted there had been an argument the previous day and it started up again.

He added: “He walked out to get away from the scene. He went to the police station and told them what he had done.”
