A TEENAGER has been arrested in connection with a suspected hit and run attack in the McDonald's car park in Daubhill.

A 19-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving, failing to stop at the scene and failing to report the incident.

He is now in police custody for questioning.

The 32-year-old victim was left with severe injuries, including broken legs and broken bones in his body and face.

The incident happened at about 11.40pm on Friday in the car park of the China Gardens McDonald's, just off Derby Street.

It is believed the incident happened after the victim, who was with a group of his friends, got into an argument with another group who were also at the restaurant.

Eventually, the second group split up in two separate cars, one of which drove off while the other drove at high speed and hit the victim.

He was taken to hospital, where he is said to be in a serious but stable condition. His injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.

Neither car stopped at the scene.

Police are continuing to investigate and say they will be trawling CCTV evidence over the next few days.

Det Insp Sarah May said: "At this stage, our investigation is focused on establishing exactly what sparked this confrontation and the exact details of what led up to this man being struck by a moving car and suffering a number of fractures to his face and body.

"He is currently receiving treatment in hospital and although his injuries are not thought to be life-threatening clearly he has suffered numerous serious injuries so we need to understand exactly what has happened and why.

"We are also investigating the possibility racist remarks were made during the argument.

"I would appeal to anyone who has information to come forward.

"We will be reviewing CCTV in the coming days but I would still encourage anyone who has information to come forward."

Anyone with information is asked to call police on 0161 8565595 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555111.

Ahmed7810 Whilst I do not condone what eventually happened and I wish the victim well, there were two groups of people present and as far as I know the possible racist remarks have not been attributed to either party.

The story does not say what race the victim was? People can't comment if facts are not presented or it's just hearsay.

But I didn't read the earlier article. If there is another article, why don't BEN use some common sense and UPDATE it with the new facts instead of creating a new story with no facts. The paper is **** poor like our council.

Articles on the website are based on articles that make it to the printed paper. You can't go around and update people's newspapers, so a new article printed on a different day will always result in a new article on the website. How about you apply some common sense instead of **** about nothing.

The website and paper by their very nature are two different beasts. As an electronic website, it would make more sense to update the original story. If you would like to go round with a black marker and update the paper version, then be my guest!

You'll find plenty of examples on decent news sites that cater to millions of people per day and not just a handful.

I don't read the paper version and why would I? Pay for such an utter load of biased crap. The only reason I come on here is to read stupid people's comments....like the one you just posted. It makes my day!

By the way the police are still investigating whether this incident was racially motivated but B.N. are "suspecting " it was racially motivated,I thought news papers were supposed to print facts and not conjecture.

It wouldn't make more sense to update the original report because then you've got an article that doesn't match the one in the newspaper. People like to read something in the paper and then perhaps look it up online to comment. Then they'd find that the article has been changed and isn't what they've read. Sure, lots of websites update articles, but they're cases where those articles (or the entire site), doesn't have a printed counterpart. Bear in mind that the BN reporters generally don't write website articles, they write articles, submit them and they are published in both places. It makes all the sense in the world to just create a new article when something different happens on a different day, even if it's related to an earlier article.

I'm really not sure why we're being allowed to comment on an on going legal case that could result in charges of attempted murder.

Mind you, it's better than the situation in South Africa where key evidence in an horrific murder trial is shown by the media before the court gets to see it...

Not sure what the racist card is being played for by GMP?

Pretty sure if something was said it would have had no relevance to the actual incident, two groups of youths had an altercation, one came of worse, (hope he recovers, get well soon)

If it's a racist attack then It should be dealt with accordingly,,if it's just a scrap between youths then anything said should be ignored.

And the bolton evening news, yet AGAIN you sensationalise the heading and report total fiction, no one has been arrested for any racist incident.

Is there not a law says you cannot publish stuff that 100% inaccurate ???

Please tell me where in this statement where the man has been accused of racist actions.

"A 19-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving, failing to stop at the scene and failing to report the incident"

The story does not say what race the victim was? People can't comment if facts are not presented or it's just hearsay.
It quite clearly sais in the earlier articles the victim was 'ASIAN'.. Racist abuse was hurled at 16 year old asian kids.

The true story will come out soon.

That's funny, last time I looked Metro, Daily Mail, Telegraph etc all have printed versions yet update the stories as needed. So what you are saying, is if it's a printed story, the website version must remain the same and never be edited or updated? LOL Ok then.
I'm saying that if an article relates to something that happened on a given day and that the article is printed in the paper also, then no, there's no point in going back and editing the article. You'll find that the MEN paper also has two articles relating to this incident, one before the arrest and another one detailing the arrest. Over at one of your examples, the Daily Mail, they aren't covering this local story, but they are covering the Amir Khan one, where they've posted three different articles over the course of the story, from when he was arrested, to when the charges were dropped. Sure, each one has update notices, probably to correct aspects, add photos, or provide links. But when the progress of the story fundamentally changes, they write a new article, as the BN has done. This is common sense.

I'm sorry but you are talking complete rubbish! Here is an example of a recent story that was updated. It even says "Updated" the title and it's not just pictures and links, it's major changes. This story was updated numerous times starting off with the first death and then was updated when the young lady died in the same night.

They did not print two stories, just updated the original one.
