BOLTON criminals will have to pay more money each year to help victims recover from the effects of crime.
Victims’ minister Mike Penning has announced that offenders will pay up to £1.5 million a year across the UK.
Money raised is used to help victims of rape, domestic violence, families bereaved by murder and fatal road traffic collisions. The money is paid when people are sentenced at court.
Mr Penning said: “It is only right that offenders should pay both for their crimes and to help repair the damage they have done.”
The change will be introduced from September.
