A BMW which smashed into a parked car before crashing into a garden wall was stolen, police say.

Detectives are looking for the driver and another male passenger who fled the scene — leaving two women, one badly injured in the wreckage in the back seat.

Police are now appealing for information.

Residents in Tong Road, Little Lever, were left shaken after the car ploughed into a garden wall after hitting a parked Renault Clio on Monday.

Emergency services were called just after 11am and the North West Air Ambulance was scrambled. The road was shut for an hour.

One woman suffering from a broken pelvis was taken to hospital by paramedics.

A spokesman for Greater Manchester Police said: “We are investigating the crash and we are now appealing for witnesses and information on the whereabouts of the two men.”

The car they were driving was a stolen BMW series 5 and officers said the badly damaged Renault Clio belonged to an elderly man.

The impact of the crash is believed to have shunted the parked car down the road before the BMW smashed into the front garden of a house, bringing down the wall and damaging wrought iron fencing at a neighbouring house.

Neighbours said it was sheer luck that no one was on the pavement or in the front garden at the time of the accident.

Residents have started a petition calling for traffic calming measures, with Tom Hisley, whose fencing was damaged in the smash, saying the crash showed there was a need for action to be taken.

It is understood more than 100 people have so far signed the petition.

Anyone who has information about the car and its occupants can call police on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
