THE mother of a young boy with an arm disability helped raise more than £10,000 for charity.

Jane Crook and her colleagues at Lloyds Bank collected £10,050 for Reach — a national association which supports children with an upper limb deficiency and their families — by putting on a ball at Bolton School.

Mrs Crook’s son Thomas, aged 14, was born with ulna club hand, a condition which causes one arm to be slightly longer than the other.

The 44-year-old, of Harwood, was inspired to organise the ball after reading about Reach’s work through a leaflet given to her by a midwife.

The ball raised £3,775, with Lloyds Bank matching this figure, while an additional £2,500 was donated by the Royal Bolton Hospital.

A suit worn by Paddy McGuinness for Sports Relief, a Bolton Wanderers shirt worn by Fabrice Muamba and a Manchester United top signed by Ryan Giggs were auctioned off at the event.

About 100 people turned up on the night, and Bolton School let its arts centre be used free of charge for the event.

Mrs Crook said: “The support was brilliant — I didn’t think the ball would be as successful as it was. It was a really fun night and I loved every minute of it.

“I didn’t organise this event because I had to, but because I wanted to, because of Thomas’s condition.

“I want to thank my colleagues, everyone who raised money and everyone who turned up to support us on the night.”

As well as Mrs Crook’s family and friends, various businesses donated money to the fundraiser, including Angelos Pizzeria in Egerton, Baci restaurant in Harwood, The Pack Horse Inn and TK Maxx.

This was not the first charity fundraiser Mrs Crook has organised — last year, she raised more than £800 in memory of her friend’s mother by completing a half-marathon in London.
