TRANSPORT bosses say they are "doing all they can" to cut congestion caused by construction work on the Leigh guided busway.
Leigh MP Andy Burnham and local councillors called a meeting with representatives from Wigan Council, Transport for Greater Manchester and busway contractor Balfour Beatty to agree a number of steps to reduce traffic.
They include making sure no other roadworks take place in the area, except emergency utility works, a review of temporary traffic management on the A580 and reviewing plans to construct the busway on Astley Street in Tyldesley.
Terry Dunn, director of environment at Wigan Council, apologised for "unacceptable" traffic delays.
He said: “I want the public to know we are listening to their concerns. This construction phase was always going to be extremely challenging.”
