DISABLED people are suffering due to delays in support payments, according to one Bolton MP.

Yasmin Qureshi, MP for Bolton South East, will take part in a Westminster Hall debate tomorrow surrounding the backlog of personal independence payments, which are given to people suffering from a long term health condition or disability.

She accused the government of not keeping their promise to people in receipt of the payment, and is calling on the Department for Work and Pensions to ‘own up’ to the problems within the department.

“A number of constituents have contacted me with horrifying stories on the devastating impact and upheaval the delays have had on their lives”, she said.

“Before the summer the Secretary of State reassured us that by autumn 2014 no PIP claimant would have to wait more than six months for an assessment and by the end of the year no one would be waiting more than 16 weeks.

“But he hasn’t kept this promise.

“The government must stop breaking its promises and do everything in its power to address the delays.”
