TODAY marks the start of 16 Days of Activism– a campaign against gender-based violence.

Councillors, representatives from women's groups and mayor Cllr Martin Donaghy will be at Paws4Kids in Corporation Street at 1.30 to launch an art exhibition promoting the cause.

Meanwhile Bolton's police and crime commissioner Tony Lloyd is urging people to join him and sign the White Ribbon Pledge.

The campaign will see men working to end violence against women and girls, and launches on White Ribbon Day on November 25.

Mr Lloyd said: "Most men are not violent towards women, but some are guilty of looking the other way or letting ignorant attitudes slide. "White Ribbon Day gives men the perfect opportunity to stand up and be counted on these issues. We have a duty to speak out, show our support for victims of domestic abuse and violence, and condemn those who commit such acts.

Help is available for victims of domestic violence.
