TWO hundred volunteers have helped to make Christmas special for disadvantaged children in Africa.
The Operation Christmas Child scheme has been running in Horwich, with volunteers cramming shoeboxes with goodies to be sent to children in Swaziland in Africa this Christmas.
The project has been so well organised that those involved have had to ship in extra boxes to use.
The team have been working for the past two weeks and the shoeboxes will begin their trip to Africa this weekend.
They will be shipped to the Kenyan city of Mombasa before being distributed to Swaziland.
Horwich Town Mayor, Cllr Richard Silvester visited the operation and said: “It was a fantastic sight to see and quite moving to think that all of these shoeboxes will be shipped half way around the world so that children in Swaziland, will receive some Christmas cheer which is sure to bring a smile to their faces
