UNIVERSITY of Bolton PhD student, Chathurika Kannangara, has been awarded Best Student Paper at the Internal Conference of Applied Psychology.

Held recently in Colombo, Sri Lanka, the conference attracted more than 300 delegates from all over the world from more than 12 countries.

This follows here award of the Heinz von Foerster Award at the American Society for Cybernetics (ASC) conference — held outside of America for the first time – and hosted at the University of Bolton last year.

Chathurika, who is originally from Sri Lanka, presented on her research subject, Positive Psychological Interventions for Dyslexia.

She said: "It was a really busy schedule so I had little time to visit with my family. I did have time so see my uncle though, who coincidentally, is a graduate of the University of Bolton and has fond memories of his time here.

"I have been studying in University of Bolton since last June and even though it is not a long time I have managed to win two international awards during this time. I strongly believe that the support I receive from my PhD supervisor Professor Jerome Carson and the University of Bolton have been two main forces behind my success.'
