WITH just a fortnight to go until Christmas Day, parents across Bolton are joining the race to get their hands on this year's hottest toys - but many of them have already sold out.

The most popular have already been snapped up across the town and mums and dads are struggling to get what they want.

The must-haves this year include a Frozen Snow Glow singing Elsa — currently selling at up to £200 on eBay — and a doll called My Friend Cayla.

Tony Richards, trading director for department store Beales, which has a store in Deansgate, said this year is "absolutely a Christmas of the latest must haves".

With Frozen mania growing more and more this year, stock levels of many lines of the film's merchandise are sold out.

My Friend Cayla is out of stock at most Argos stores, including Bolton, and there are only a few left on Amazon.

She is another one whose price has been jacked up £20, but they are still available at Tesco and Toys R US online.

Anyone who has watched the John Lewis advert and has their heart set on their very own Monty the penguin or his love interest Mabel might also be disappointed.

The small and medium sizes of both, along with cufflinks, water bottles, purses and outdoor lit versions, are all out of stock.

A spokesman for John Lewis, which has an outlet at the Trafford Centre, said: "Although we ordered more products than last year, Monty and Mabel have proved very popular with customers.

"Although the cuddly toys have sold quickly there is still stock of other products available on johnlewis.com and in John Lewis branches around the country.

"We are expecting to have more Monty and Mabel products in stock before Christmas."

Toys R Us has almost sold out of the Zoomer Dino Boomer dinosaur that roars and chases. Customers can still get it, if they don't mind paying upwards of £75, although three months ago it was available for £60.

Meanwhile, for the hi-tech minded, the VTect Kidizoom smartwatch has a touch screen, phone, apps - and it even tells the time.
