THE majority of Bolton Association clubs have expressed a desire to remain in the league.

Representatives of 16 of the Association's 18 clubs attended a special meeting on Friday to discuss whether they wanted to stay in the Association or join the proposed Greater Manchester Cricket League.

There were two votes at the meeting, one which asked if clubs would like to stay in the Association and the other asking how many clubs would not join the new GM League.

Of the 16 votes cast, 11 said they would like to remain in the Association with the other five not voting, while five clubs stated they would not join the new league - again with the remainder not voting.

Association officials believe the votes show that the majority of their member clubs want the Association to remain an independent league.

The clubs also decided they wanted to continue to have a presence on the GM League's steering committee in order to keep informed of developments.

The 10 members of the Association's executive and management committee informed the meeting that none of them was prepared to attend any further meetings of the steering group or its sub-committees.

They are now looking for suitable representatives to attend these meetings on behalf of the Association and report back to the clubs.

Anybody interested in taking on the roles should inform the Association officials ahead of their regular monthly meeting on Friday.

At last Friday's meeting at Adlington Cricket Club, Association chairman Frank Jackson explained he could not be a "hypocrit" and attend meetings that could help to form a structure which, in his opinion, would destroy the Bolton Association.
