TRAINS through Bolton were delayed after a man threatened to jump from an overbridge.
The man, whose age is unknown, was spotted on the wrong side of the railings on an overbridge near to Bolton station at 10.48am.
Specially-trained Greater Manchester Police officers quickly arrived at the scene and after about an hour managed to talk the man down.
Services were disrupted until 11.45am, with trains between Chester and Southport, Manchester Victoria and Clitheroe and Manchester Victoria and Blackpool all affected by the incident.
These trains were forced to start from or be terminated at Wigan Wallgate, Blackburn and Preston in order to avoid Bolton.
A spokesman for Northern Rail said: “Trains were affected from approximately 10.50am because a suicidal person was on top of an overbridge near to Bolton station.
“There were six services in total that were impacted, and they were all the lines that run through Bolton.
“Some services were delayed and some stopped short of their destination.”
Services were running normally through Bolton by 12pm.
