A SELF defence expert is offering free tuition for people in Bolton who want to learn how to protect themselves.

The class, which has been organised by Highfield Hall Community Association in Farnworth, will offer basic self defence techniques taught by qualified karate teacher Darren Hilton from Harwood Kempo Karate Club.

The class has been organised after a teenage girl was raped in Little Hulton.

Committee member Tony Finbarr-Smith said: "Following the awful attack on the teenager we felt it would be a good idea to put on a free class so that those who feel vulnerable in the area can learn the basics of self defence."

The Bolton News reported earlier this month that a 15-year-old girl was walking along Wynne Street, a back alley connecting Hilton Street and Cleggs Lane, at about 10pm on Sunday, January 11, when a man attacked her from behind before punching and raping her.

Police are still looking for the man, who is described as white, in his 40s, about 5ft 6in tall, with a big build and a large belly.

The class will take place at Highfield Hall tomorrow from 1.30pm until 2pm. Places are limited to 40 people. To book, contact Shelley Taylor on 07900 446363.
