TWO arsonists poured petrol over a car at a Farnworth garage before setting it alight.

The attack happened at the Egerton Street Tyres garage in Egerton Street at 3.30am today.

The owner of the garage said he has seen CCTV footage of the vandals pouring up to five bottle of petrol over a Volkswagen Golf car before setting it alight and running away.

The garage owner, who wished to remain anonymous, is now offering a £1,000 reward to anyone with information that could lead to the attackers being caught.

He said: "I have seen the footage from our cameras and this is clearly a malicious, targeted attack - they have done this on purpose.

"You can see two lads coming in and pouring four or five bottles of petrol over the Golf and then setting it on fire.

"You can make out their faces on the footage so I am hopeful that they will be caught."

The car belonged to a customer of Egerton Tyres and was parked close to the garage building.

The owner said: "The fire has spread so that smoke was coming into the building and has caused a lot of electrical damage.

"This incident will cost me thousands of pounds so they must be caught."

Fire crews from Farnworth and Bolton both attended and put out the fire, but the car was destroyed.

Greater Manchester Police are now investigating.

The fire is the second suspected arson attack at a Farnworth garage this month.

Police are also investigating the cause of a blaze at Auto Tyres in nearby Emlyn Street, where up to 100 tyres caught fire on Febrary 2.

Anyone with information can call police on 101.
