THIS photograph was taken in April 1982 and shows Springfield Cottages in Bolton.
Town Hall planners said they had no objection in principle to the Earl of Bradford's scheme to turn the row of terraces houses into small factories, a public inquiry was told.
The Earl, who owns the 17 houses, was objecting to a compulsory purchase order which would mean the properties being demolished.
In all the council wanted to demolish 100 houses saying they were unfit for habitation.
Most of them were in an area of Rose Hill which included parts of Henry Street, Orlando Street and Rose Street — a site which was earmarked for new housing if the order was confirmed.
But the Earl's land, sandwiched between the River Croal and St Peter's Way, was scheduled for future industrial use.
The Earl wanted the cottages to be preserved for cottage industry.
