EXCITED children enjoyed a sleepover— at their own school.

They put away their books and got out their sleeping bags when the bell sounded at the end of the school day at Eagley Infants.

In preparation for their first residential trip to the Lake District, six and seven children stayed behind on Friday after the gates shut.

Every year, older children at the infant school enjoy a night away in Cumbria, making new friends and bringing their geography lessons to life — and to ensure they get the most out of the experience they have a mock run in school.

Deputy headteacher Jo Field said: "The children were very excited, they brought in their sleeping bags, teddies for the practice.

"They went on the play adventure play equipment and the highlight of the evening was a game of hide and seek in the school, because they had the whole school to themselves.

"The last one dropped off at midnight!"

Next week children will travel to Goodly Daly Primary School where they will take part in a geography field trip around Lake Windermere and meet the children they have been emailing before the visit.

They will have a chance to take part in adventures which promotes learning outdoors, and may have the chance to toast marshmallows on an open fire.

At the end of the day the children will sleep in the school hall.

Mrs Field said: "It is very exciting for them, they are only six and seven-year-old and for many it is the first time they have been away from home.

"It is an adventure for them, a chance to bond and focus on their geography learning in the local environment."
