Sky Ride Bolton is a FREE big bike event for all ages and abilities taking place on the traffic-free streets of Bolton on Sunday 7 June, 11:00am – 3:00pm.

Whether you are a new or experienced cyclist at Sky Ride Bolton there is something for you – it’s all about getting on your bike and having fun.

The route is open between 11:00am – 3:00pm, and you can join any time. Starting from Victoria Square, Sky Ride Bolton enjoys a route that takes in some of the city’s most iconic buildings and sites. After leaving Victoria Square participants will have the opportunity to ride the entire length of beautiful neo-classical Le Mans Crescent before entering Queen’s Park, one of Bolton’s gorgeous Victorian green spaces. You could even find yourself riding alongside triple Olympic gold medallist and Bolton-born Jason Kenny at Sky Ride Bolton. When asked about attending a Sky Ride in his home city Jason said: “I’m delighted to be attending Sky Ride Bolton once again, joining thousands of people in my hometown to be part of a fantastic celebration of cycling. The event is a great showcase of all the ways you can get involved in the sport, and the variety of recreational cycling programmes offered by British Cycling and Sky. It’s a great day out for families, exploring the town on two wheels, traffic-free. An opportunity not to be missed. Register your free place today – see you there.”

Sky Rides are a great way to experience riding through the streets of your town and city – totally traffic-free. This year we’re rolling out a real festival atmosphere, with even more things to do at the event, both on and off the bike.

Head for The Hub to collect your Sky Ride Pass and your free reflective Sky Ride bib (for these you’ll need to register with us on the day if you haven’t already registered in advance). Experts from Halfords will be on hand if your bike needs a quick check up before the ride. Our new Keep Pedalling area is a great place to find out about cycling opportunities in your area, meet your local Ride Leaders and Breeze champions, and check out an interactive map of local rides. And The Hub is also where you’ll find our friendly Bike Cafe – a perfect place to meet friends or relax with a coffee and a piece of cake.

Our Tricks & Tunes area has been designed to get your jaw dropping and your heart pumping! This year we’re delighted to welcome Europe’s number one mountain bike and BMX demonstration team, led by multiple British and European trials champion Danny Butler. Test your own freestyle skills on our giant air bag. Meanwhile coaches from British Cycling’s brilliant Go Ride programme will be running skills sessions for under-16s – and there’s a chance to win £100 of Halfords vouchers at every event too.

At The Marketplace you’ll find loads of community organisations and clubs, plus local bike shops, retailers and places to get a bite to eat or drink.

If you haven’t got a bike of your own but you’d like to take part in Sky Ride Bolton, why not hire one? Free mountain bikes and adapted cycles are available to hire on a first come first basis from Victoria Square for a refundable deposit of £10.
