A GRANDSON looking after his gandmother's bungalow accidentally set the property on fire.
Firefighters were called to the chip pan blaze at Whittle Avenue, Walkden yesterday.
The kitchen was badly damaged and the rest of the house was smoke logged but the man escaped unhurt after being woken by a smoke alarm.
Firefighters in Bolton are running a scheme where they replace traditional stove-top chip pans with safer electric deep-fat fryers at homes where there has been a kitchen fire. They will also do so for elderly or vulnerable people.
