WANDERERS and England legend Franny Lee teed off for the 26th annual golf fundraiser in aid of Bolton Lads & Girls Club.

More than 80 people from local businesses took to the greens of Bolton Golf Club in the annual Francis Lee Golf Classic to raise vital funds to support the Club’s mentoring project.

Over the years the golf event has raised more than £250,000 for the club.

Karen Edwards, Bolton Lads & Girls Club Chief Executive, said: “I’d like to thank Francis and all of the participants over the years that have raised vital funds and made the event such a success. Just by teeing off, they have helped to make a difference to the lives of many young people.”

Former Manchester City star Francis said he was delighted to be helping out the club.

He said: “It is a great pleasure to be involved in the golf classic event.

"Now more than ever, the club relies on events such as this to raise valuable income to keep its doors open. It is wonderful to see so many people wanting to make a much needed contribution to the future of our young people.”

Teams that took part in the event, sponsored by Morrisons, included: Barton Grange, Barlow Andrews, Seneca Partners Limited, Liquid Roofing, Haywood & Co, Miller Goodall Environmental Services Ltd, Kuit Steinart Levy, Granite Transformation, Credit Suisse, Kay Johnson Gee, University of Bolton, Yorkshire Bank, Sharples Group Ltd, Taylor & Taylor Financial Services, The Professional Footballers’ Association, CLB Coopers, Whitewell Financial Planning Ltd, Francis Lee’s team and Danny’s Boys.

Players then enjoyed an evening meal and an auction in the club house to raise more funds for the club.

All funds raised from the event will support Bolton Lads and Girls Club’s Mentoring Programme.
