A GRATEFUL mum met hero firefighters who rescued her newborn baby boy when he got locked in her car.

Nicola Hubbard, aged 27, took seven-week-old Lucas to meet members of Bolton Central fire station's Blue Watch to say thank you for their efforts.

The crew, headed by watch manager Ian Read, went to the aid of the 27-year-old mum after Lucas, along with her keys and mobile phone, got locked in her silver Ford Fiesta when the central locking failed.

The dental therapist had parked her car in Knowsley Street, near Victoria Halls while she nipped to the bank.

She then returned and put her son in his car seat and the buggy in the boot, leaving her keys and phone on her seat.

But when she came to open the driver’s side door it was locked — and she had no choice but to plead with a passerby to ring the fire brigade.

The firefighters made an improvised hook and pry bar to open the door.

Mrs Hubbard, who lives in Chorley with her husband, Anthony, 29, said she was delighted to have met the team.

She said: "It was great to meet them and personally thank them for what they did. The work they do is heroic.

"I brought Lucas last week with a card and some chocolates but they were busy out on a job so I'm really pleased I managed to catch them. I can't thank them enough."
