TRIBUTES have been paid to a grandfather who died in a horrific crash on the M60.

Lionel Miller, from Bolton, died when his Fiat Punto hit a lamppost on the exit sliproad towards Denton roundabout at junction 24.

Mr Miller, aged 75, was taken to hospital with multiple injuries but died two days later.

Paying tribute to him, his family said: "Lionel has lived in the Bolton area for over 50 years with his wife Janice.

"Lionel leaves behind his wife, three daughters, a son, 10 grandchildren, three great grandchildren, his sister-in-law, niece and nephew, most of whom live locally.

"Lionel loved having his family around him and will be greatly missed by everyone who knew and loved him.

"He enjoyed a whole variety of music and spent a lot of time building his record collection."

"Lionel had a large group of friends, many from his time working at Lorival Plastics in Bolton and from the Railway club in Bolton, where he was a regular visitor."

Officers are now appealing for people who may have witnessed the accident last Sunday at 5pm to contact the Serious Collision Investigation Unit on 0161 856 4741.
