THE Labour Group on Bolton Council has a vision for this town.

We want to ensure that every young person has the opportunity to fulfil their potential, treat our senior citizens with the respect they deserve and continue to invest in our environment.

A Labour Government has provided the necessary investment and we will ensure we deliver on your local priorities.

Every young person deserves the best start in life.

If elected we will ensure every single community is served by a children's centre, introduce free use of swimming pools for the under 16s, build a new Skatepark and build a new town centre swimming pool and leisure facility We are determined to continue to improve services for senior citizens. If elected we will introduce the free use of leisure centres for over 65s and free transport for pensioners and the disabled will also become a national scheme.

We brought back the weekly grey bin collection and if elected we will roll out the burgundy bins to replace the green boxes for those households that request one.

We will also ensure we continue to invest in ways to make recycling easier and continue to care for our parks and public amenities.

We have introduced tough measures to crack down on crime and anti-social behaviour.

Unfortunately, both the Lib Dems and the Conservatives have attempted to block our efforts.

If elected we will ensure that the new legislation is implemented to cut crime even further.

We are proud of our record in Bolton.

Crime is down. School results are improving and a record number of people are in work. Moreover, we have kept council tax in line with inflation.

In partnership with you we can help to change the face of our community for the better.

How they stand

Labour seized power from the Liberal Democrats last May.

The party now holds 24 of the council's 60 seats.

The Conservatives are Labour's closest challengers, with 21 seats and the Lib Dems have 15.

Twenty seats will be contested in tomorrow's election - one in each of the council's wards.

There will also be 53 candidates battling for seats on town councils in Westhoughton, Horwich and Blackrod, the first town council elections since 2003.
