YOUNGSTERS in Darwen are being warned after a large amount of alcohol was seized by police.

They seized 79 bottles of beer, 80 cans of lager, 12 bottles of cider, six bottles of vodka and a variety of other bottles of alcohol from teenagers.

Insp Andrea Bradbury said: "We continue to seize alcohol from youngsters, who are congregating, particularly around the Sunnyhurst Woods area of Darwen. It is not acceptable.

"Youngsters who gather in areas and act in an anti-social manner are disrupting the quality of life for residents and we will continue to seize alcohol from underage drinkers, until the message gets through."

She added: "Recently, a youngster was rescued in a drunken state from the river at Sunnyhurst Woods. Luckily that person was returned to his parents safe and well.

"I appeal to parents to make sure they know where their children are at all times and are aware, in particular, of the amount of alcohol they are consuming on a Friday and Saturday night."
