PARENTS having difficulties in getting their children into the primary school of their choice are justified in asking local councillors if school closures have added to the problem.

Parental concern comes against a background of a doubling of the numbers of appeals to the council when parents fail to get their children into their preferred schools.

The Conservatives claim that closures have made the situation worse and there are areas in Bolton where primary schools have closed and others merged.

Primary schools were originally built to serve their local communities and it is a strange situation if such local schools cannot cater for the population.

Parents quite rightly expect to be able to send their children to the nearest primary school and if they cannot then councillors should be put on the spot and made to answer for the consequences of their decisions.
