A JUNIOR football club is hoping a car boot sale will help raise the pounds needed to allow its players to spend a penny.

Daisy Hill Juniors are bidding to raise £9,500 to install a drainage system to changing room toilets alongside their pitch off Leigh Road which have never been used.

The club's 120 youngsters, aged between 5 and 11, currently have to use a portable toilet because there is nowhere for the waste to go.

Plans to install a septic tank at the site were refused by Bolton Council on health and safety grounds.

The car boot sale will take place at the ground from 9.30am on Sunday, May 13 and will include a bouncy castle, stalls and games.

It follows other fundraisers including a sponsored climb and race night which have already brought in nearly £5,000.

The club's fundraising officer, Sharon Goulding, said: "You can get up to 300 people for matches there plus the players so you can imagine what's it's like when people need the loo.

"We will also be using the car boot sale to promote our club and try and get more young people involved in football."

Cars will be charged £7 each or £6 if people they book in advance by contacting Sharon on 07719 643824.

Admission for bargain hunters will be 50p, with children free of charge.
