A VISITOR allegedly took a drugs overdose at Bolton Library and then was aggressive to staff.

Police and paramedics were called to the disturbance at the building in Le Mans Crescent, Bolton, at about 3.50pm today.

A spokesman for North West Ambulance Service said the patient refused to be taken to A&E and was given some health advice at the scene instead.

A police spokesman said the man was attended to by paramedics when officers arrived and no offence had been committed.

Fifteen minutes after the first 999 call, the library was evacuated although it is unclear whether this was as a precaution or coincidence.

It was the second evacuation of the library in less than two weeks, following the false alarm on September 14.
