THIS is the man police want to speak to in connection with a shocking rape of a vulnerable man.

One month on from the sickening attack, officers yesterday released new CCTV footage of a man walking along Bradshawgate.

Despite making extensive inquiries into the rape in the early hours of September 5, officers have so far drawn a blank.

The victim, in his 40s, was attacked between 4am and 4.30am in a car park off Manchester Road as he walked home from a night out.

He was approached by a man near to Cash Generators who then pushed him over a low wall onto the car park outside Kwik Fit, before raping him.

Det Insp Damian Simpson from GMP’s Serious Sexual Offences Unit said: “It is a month since this terrifying attack took place and, despite our extensive inquiries, we are still looking for the person responsible.

“We have released this new footage in the hope that somebody will recognise the man or at the very least it may jog someone’s memory to something they may have seen that night and encourage them to contact us and assist with our enquiries.

“The victim is a vulnerable man who has understandably been left traumatised by the attack and he continues to be provided with support from specially trained officers.

“We are particularly interested in hearing from anybody that may have been outside The Late Bar on Bradshawgate between 4am and 4.30am."

The attacker is described as a white man in his late 20s, approximately 6ft tall and of stocky build with short brown hair.

He was wearing a white shirt and jeans and is described as ‘clean looking’.

Last month police released CCTV footage of a man in Allen's Fried Chicken in Bradshawgate.

A 35-year-old was arrested on suspicion of rape but was eliminated from police inquiries and faces no further action.

In the latest video, two men in white shirts are seen walking along Bradshawgate at about 4.35am.

Police want to speak to the man seen on the left of the picture.

In the footage, the other man is seen shaking hands with a person standing outside student accommodation opposite the Balmoral pub.

Anybody with information should contact police in GMP’s Serious Sexual Offences Unit on 0161 856 1911 or call the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
