Tinsel TV: watch police festive crime video advent calendar for #GMPChristmas

Each day in the run up to December 25 a new TV spot featuring Rudolph, Snowman, The Big Bad Wolf and Santa Claus giving crime prevention advice - under the banner of Tinsel TV - will be released.

The force's series of festive-themed reminders, to be available on online and broadcast on mobile digital ad vans circulating around Greater Manchester, forms part of its wider #GMPChristmas seasonal campaign to tackle crime and protect the vulnerable.

Assistant Chief Constable John O’Hare said: "Our top priority is making sure that the people of Greater Manchester enjoy Christmas in the safest possible manner.

"It can be a very busy time of year but we are asking the public to take some time to have a think about what their Christmas present might be to their community or family.

"Whether you promise to visit an elderly relative or neighbour, or volunteer to be the designated driver for friends on a night out, we can all do our part to keep ourselves and others safe this season."

Other initiatives include:

• Operation Sherry, a crackdown against robbery, burglaries, shoplifting and vehicle crime in Bolton town centre conducted by neighbourhood officers 
• More high-visibility patrols to combat the usual spike in crime
• A re-run of the annual drink-drive awareness campaign None For The Road
• Purse bells and other crime prevention tools being handed out to shoppers in town centres
• A strong police presence around car parks to help stop car thieves

Greater Manchester's interim mayor and Police and Crime Commissioner Tony Lloyd said: "There will always be those who want to spoil the party for everyone, so please take care of yourself and your friends when you’re out enjoying yourselves, and make sure everyone gets home safe and sound."
