A BREWERY is helping put Bolton on the map — after creating a London Underground style route of pubs across the town.

The drinkers’ guide to Bolton has been created by Bank Top Brewery, and features dozens of pubs stretching from Horwich and Bromley Cross to Little Lever and Stoneclough.

While it is not a pocket-sized guide, the brewery hopes drinkers will use the map over the festive period, a typically busy period for publicans, to plan their nights out and sample some of the best beers and drinking dens Bolton has to offer.

Claire Kirkman, assistant to brewery owner Dave Sweeney, said: “We were approached by a company who makes the maps and were asked if we would like to sponsor them, and we went for it.

“We had them last year but they didn’t seem to take off, but we are hoping that people will buy them as Christmas gift for friends and family.

“They are a bit different and a bit of fun. I don’t think people would bring the maps out with them while they are on their route but it can be used to plan nights out and ale trails.”

The pub owns the Bank Top Ale House in Church Street, Horwich, the former Brown Cow, as well as The Tap in Astley Bridge.

Mrs Kirkham said she hopes the quirky map will also be a boon to Bolton pubs and breweries such as Bank Top.

She said: “Quite a few pubs on the maps stock our beers, so it will hopefully be a good boost for our business as well as our own two pubs.

“If it can help boost trade in pubs and support local businesses, then that can only be a positive thing.”

The maps can be purchased from either of the Bank Top pubs, priced at £5.
