A MOTORIST suffered a minor injury after swerving to avoid a bus outside Bolton Bus Station.

The driver of the red Peugeot 206 collided with a traffic island, wrecking railings and hitting a traffic light pole.

It happened on Friday at around 9.30pm outside the bus station in Blackhorse Street in Bolton town centre that is owned by Transport for Greater Manchester.

GMP's Roads Policing Unit officers tweeted about the incident through their @GMPTraffic account and said: "The vehicle had to take evasive action to avoid a collision with a bus."

Police said the bus driver was interviewed and will be summonsed for driving without due care and attention.

North West Ambulance Service did not attend the incident.

It is not clear which company the driver worked for or whether the bus was in or out of service at the time of the accident.
