RAIL users are reminded that no trains will run between Bolton and Manchester this weekend.

On Saturday and Sunday, the Farnworth Tunnel will be closed — with no services passing through.

This is to allow the final part of the Farnworth Tunnel redevelopment project to be completed.

After Sunday, the project — which started in May last year and has led to severe disruption on the borough’s rail services — will be complete.

The project forms part of a £1 billion programme of investment by Network Rail that aims to improve rail services across the north of England with the electrification of the rail network.

During this weekend’s closure trains will be amended, diverted or replaced by buses.

Full details of the changes can be found at northernrail.org/news/7833 Network Rail has also announced that there will be a relaxation of ticket routings during this weekend’s closure.
