A NEW high-tech video offers remarkable views of Bolton's most impressive landmarks – along with an impressive vision for the town's future.

In scenes reminiscent of a trailer for a Hollywood Blockbuster the new film uses drone footage to offer sweeping views of the town.

Bolton Council has commissioned the film as a means of showing people all of the different development and regeneration projects taking place in and around the borough.

The film, entitled Destination Bolton, has been created by town centre firm Portfolio Design, who captures breathtaking views across the town.

Shots of Smithills Hall, Rivington Pike and Bolton Town Hall have been interwoven with detailed artist's impressions of the myriad of development projects that are currently underway in the borough.

Destination Bolton got its first airing during last year's Bolton Vision Conference and council chiefs said they were inundated with requests from people to make it public - so it has now been published on video sharing website Youtube.

Among the many projects highlighted in the film are the cinema and restaurant complex being created at The Market Place Shopping Centre, the new £48 million transport interchange, the creation of a huge new logistics hub at Cutacre and work to transform Newport Street.

Many of the projects featured have been launched with the help of Keith Davies in his previous role of director of Development and regeneration with Bolton Council.

Mr Davies, who has stepped in to the role of deputy chief executive, prior to his retirement, said he thinks the video is a great way of showing people everything that is going on in Bolton.

He said: "We commissioned the video as a promotional tool in terms of attracting new business to come to Bolton but also as a way of showing people all the things that are happening here.

"Initially we had shown it to the business community at the vision conference and lots of people encouraged me to make it publicly available because they feel it is a great story.

"It shows the great deal of progress the council has made in the past 10 years despite the recession and the downturn in the economy - all these things you can see in the film are actually happening in Bolton."

He added: "We have had £1 billion of investment in the past 10 years and this just translates that to show what we have been working on - it is a great film and credit to local firm Portfolio for putting it together."

The council will continue to use the film and the plan is to update it as projects continue or if new schemes are created.

Since making it publicly available this week, the film has already been causing a stir on social media.

Roddy Gauld, chief executive of the Bolton Octagon tweeted: "Very proud to see @octagontheatre feature so prominently in Bolton's re-development #culturematters."

Susan Long, chief officer at Bolton's Clinical Commissioning Group posted: "I've been asking when this great #Bolton video would be made available, thanks @boltoncouncil."
