DEAN Holdsworth’s Sports Shield consortium are poised to be announced as the new owners of Bolton Wanderers today.

The club will confirm it has been bought in joint venture between Sports Shield and the Inner Circle Investment Group, led by Former football agent Ken Anderson, worth an initial £7.5 million.

A new board will also be confirmed, in which Anderson and Holdsworth will take a leading role.

Outgoing owner Eddie Davies is expected to be named as club president following 13 years as the majority shareholder.

STATEMENT: Bolton Wanderers takeover deal officially complete

The success of the bid ends a long and agonising search for new ownership, which has pushed the club to the brink of administration.

After three stays of execution at the High Court in London, it is now believed that the outstanding tax and VAT bill owed to HMRC will be settled by the time of their next visit on March 21 – ending the risk of liquidation.

The Football League gave conditional approval to the takeover on Monday and will keep close tabs on Wanderers’ finances until the summer of 2018. They will also speak with the new owners over ending a transfer embargo that has been in place since the turn of the year.

Sports Shield changed the structure of their bid in recent weeks, giving a higher share allocation to Anderson’s Inner Circle group. Bruce Gordon, who had previously been a major investor in the bid, has stepped aside.
