THE family of a grandfather killed after being hit by a car while out running have paid tribute to him.

Tony Foster, aged 54, was left fighting for his life after the incident on Tuesday, which happened while he was running along Bolton Road towards the junction with Manchester Road in Westhoughton.

Mr Foster died at Salford Royal Hospital two days later, on Thursday, and now his family have issued a tribute.

Paying tribute to him, Mr Foster's family said the father and grandfather will be sadly missed.

In a statement they said: "It’s with deep sadness that we announce the death of Tony our loving husband, father and Grandfather following him being involved in a collision on Tuesday.

"He will be sadly missed by all his family and close friends.”

Mr Foster was hit when he crossed the carriageway of Manchester Road, and was struck by a Kia Venga travelling south east.

The driver of the Kia, a 65-year-old woman, stopped at the scene and provided negative samples for alcohol and drugs. She was not arrested.

Officers are appealing for anyone who saw the incident or has dash cameras installed in their vehicles to get in touch.

After his Mr Foster's death was announced, Police Sergeant Mark Thomas of the Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: "The man sadly passed away and our thoughts are with his family at what is a very difficult time for them.

"If you witnessed the collision, or have any dash-cam or CCTV footage please call police and let us know what you saw."

Mr Foster's death comes after two female runners were seriously injured following a crash in Moss Bank Way, in a separate incident on Monday night.
