HAVE you ever wanted to star in a movie?

If so the talented filmmakers at the University of Bolton are giving you the chance to become a character in the latest Bolton Storyworld production 'Codename: Winter Hill'.

The movie is a thriller in which students are going missing and the audience members are "dropped in" as action characters.

The film made for an audience of fellow students takes place entirely on watchers' smartphones so they can interact with the story.

And to be part of the storyline they receive messages, watch videos, explore and send information when prompted.

The film has been produced by the University of Bolton in collaboration with Bellyfeel — which works with production companies to reach bigger audiences using different media platforms — and is now a finalist for a Learning on Screen Award 2016, with the ceremony taking place later this month.

Lee Robinson, a graduate of the University of Bolton who now works for Bellyfeel, said Bolton Storyworld helped introduce him to the concept of so-called 'transmedia'.

He said: "Working with transmedia, a genre that I was previously unfamiliar with, I was introduced to a wide range of skills beyond the standard media practice taught at most other universities, including, writing social media narratives, organising live events and opening up audience participation."

Lee added: "Having the industry professionals at Bellyfeel producing the project was an invaluable learning experience for me, as well."

The Learning on Screen award is the only UK award for media production in teaching, learning and research.

Entries come from a wide variety of organisations and individuals producing educational media. Bolton Storyworld is nominated for the Educational Multimedia Award. The awards will be given out at a ceremony in London on 28 April.

Krishna Stott, Bellyfeel founder, said: "It's gratifying to have this project be a finalist for the Educational Multimedia award.

"The students involved were the real focus, and they did amazing work.

"I'm glad we were able to help them and teach them about interactive storytelling."

All shortlisted entries will be showcased at the Learning on Screen Awards ceremony in London on April 28.
